Performance and Kinetics of BPA Degradation Initiated by Powdered Iron (or Ferrous Sulfate) and Persulfate in Aqueous Solutions

The widespread use of bisphenol A (BPA) in industry has resulted BPA contamination water bodies and even endocrine-disrupting effects on organisms humans through transmission. Advanced oxidation processes based sulfate radicals have received increasing attention due to their ability efficiently degrade endocrine disruptors (including BPA) water. In this study, powdered iron (Fe(0)) ferrous (Fe(II)) were used as activators activate persulfate (PS) for the degradation BPA. dosage activator, concentration PS, BPA, initial solution pH, reaction temperature efficiency Fe(II)/PS Fe(0)/PS systems investigated, kinetics under different conditions analyzed. results showed that optimal [Fe(II)] = 0.1 g/L, [PS] 0.4 mM, [BPA] 1 mg/L, T 70 °C pH 5.0 system [Fe(0)] 0.5 system; both able achieve equally good satisfied pseudo-secondary kinetic equation varying PS conditions, otherwise conformed pseudo-first-order equation.
